Uncanny X-Men #17 Review – Monet is Officially the Worst

Uncanny X-Men 17 ReviewWhen Monet St. Croix first stepped on the scene in the 90s, I thought she was okay. A little full of herself, but she was okay. I really haven’t seen her much since then, until I fell back into the X-Men wagon. In this series, she was arrogant, but she was still a good person. Ever since her vampiric brother decided to inhabit her body, she’s been horrible. Rather than admit to Magneto she’s not a perfect mutant, she hid her affliction from him. Sabretooth picked up on it quickly, but because he genuinely cares about her, he let her feed on him and keep it all a secret.

Stupid, stupid pride. Her pride, as well as her parasitic brother, got her in the Hellfire Club next to Magneto. They are why she had no problems destroying a mutant’s mind to find out anything about the Someday corporation. Now, in the middle of this war between the inhumans and mutants, she’s letting her vampiric instincts take over and feed on innocent inhumans.

Monet, if you get Sabretooth killed over your idiocy, I’ll threaten something I have no power to follow through.

While we can agree that Monet is indeed the worst right now, I admit I have no idea how she got to what seems to be Hell to feed on inhumans. As you can see from the cover, this is yet another crossover comic from the Inhumans vs. X-Men series. I bemoaned this on Monday over a mimosa, and then I’ve gone on ahead and picked up the entire IvX mini-series. I have to understand what is going on.

Do you understand, Marvel, that I’ve never felt this way about one of your crossovers before? Remember the Stryfe saga of the 90s, the one that crossed over X-MenUncanny X-MenX-Force, and I think X-Factor? I didn’t care enough about that to read anything other than what was in X-Men. I’m sure I missed a great story, but I didn’t care at the time, and I still pretty much don’t. But now, I care so much about these Uncanny X-Men, I’m buying into your crossovers.

May God have mercy on your crossing over souls.

I really hope that IvX fills in the gaps from the last few issues, because I am rather lost. Or do I need to catch up on Extraordinary X-Men too? I should just give Marvel a direct line to my bank account. Just take all the money. I obviously can’t resist.
