Uncanny Avengers #15 Review – Helping Hands

Uncanny Avengers 15 reviewCaptain America may have taken his toys and left for home, but it doesn’t mean that the rest of his team has to follow suit. In fact, Rogue and Deadpool are kind of happy about not being under his strict rules. They’re going to still unite with former Avengers, current mutants, and current inhumans to do what is right across the world. But before Rogue and Deadpool can talk to the rest of the team about Cap’s temper tantrum, Doctor Voodoo magically appears (hahahaha punny!) and warns them that the Hand is about to resurrect Bruce Banner for evil reasons.

Sounds like this is a job for the Rogue Avengers! (Also punny because of Rogue and because they’re going rogue by ignoring Steve Rogers.)

Obviously, they have to run to Japan right now and stop the Hand. Talking to the Hand is useless as most are zombie ninja killing machines. But the best way to stop the Hand is to recruit someone who was resurrected by the Hand, and since Psylocke is rather busy with her own problems, Deadpool settles for Elektra. Not my first choice either, as Elektra is rather dry, but she’s a fantastic yin to Deadpool’s yang.

Once again, Deadpool is the best reason to keep reading this comic.

But the rest of the team has their moments too.

Uncanny Avengers 15

Notice that the Human Torch was invited by Steve Rogers to merge with the Avengers? Wasp wasn’t, even though she was an Avenger and wasn’t part of Rogue and Cable’s plan. Quicksilver also was not, even though he also was not part of Rogue and Cable’s plan. I hope to see those reasons unveiled in Captain America: Sam Wilson or later issues of Uncanny Avengers, before or after it comes out what is really going on with Steve Rogers*.

Suffice to say, the Avengers do not stop the Hand. After all, wouldn’t that be boring if they actually prevented a worldwide disaster? Tis crazy talk to succeed at a mission for once. But, Rogue and Deadpool do come clean about Steve quitting the Avengers. Too bad there’s no time to talk about if any are going to stay, because there’s an undead and angry Hulk on the loose. Since this is part of the Civil War II Aftermath, I have a sneaking suspicion that Bruce won’t find peace again in this comic series. It will be in either Civil War II proper or another crossover title.

Superhero comics are great, aren’t they?

Most of this issue is witty humor enveloping some pretty amazing action and bloody battles with little plot development, but I honestly suppose the same could be said for every issue. That’s probably this series’ best asset.

When Steve’s youth was returned in the Standoff crossover story arc, Kobrik manipulated his personality as well, making him a spy for Hydra and the Red Skull.
