Flash #25 Review – Never Knew Reverse Flash Was Incrediboy

Flash 25 reviewLast issue of Flash was a huge cliffhanger, and I completely expected to see Reverse Flash scramble Iris’ brains at the start of this issue. Instead, this one was more of a backstory explanation. In other words, I was right about the tour from a few issues ago, when I predicted it was Reverse Flash giving Iris a special tour of the Flash Museum. In the tour, he mentioned that Reverse Flash and Flash were the best of friends. This issue explains how they became friends as well as how they became absolute enemies.

This has to be, by far, one of the dumbest reasons why someone would hate someone so much. At least in Incrediboy’s experience, Mr. Incredible was kind of a jerk to him to begin with. But for Eobard Thawne to hate Flash so much for being just as nice to him as he was to everyone else? I get he thought their friendship was special, and indeed it was special. I completely understand why Thawne’s feelings were hurt. But how did he get from hurt feelings to I’m-going-to-kill-your-mom angry? That’s what is ludicrous.

Then again, this is the world of comics.

That piece aside, it was still fascinating to learn of how Eobard got his powers and how he was always able to stay a step ahead of Flash. They didn’t really explain how he survived the wrath of Dr. Manhattan, but I suppose they’ll never let Reverse Flash go, because who else would Flash angst over? They tried making a new Reverse Flash, and we saw how that turned out (abysmally).

However, Thawne does make a good point in making time for the people in his life. He didn’t give Wally a chance to accept him as both Barry and the Flash. When he developed a relationship with Iris, he didn’t give her a chance either, especially when they admitted they loved one another. Flash is so afraid of people not accepting him as Barry and the Flash that he pushes them away. I’m not sure how killing Barry’s mom when Barry was a kid would make him learn how to make time for the people he loves, but then again, I’m not a psychopath.

We’ll see how the most important person in Barry’s life reacts now that she’s been kidnapped by Thawne. It should all come to head next issue. Emphasis upon should.
